Well, the clever team at UP have decided to make the bold leap into day sacks.

A hugely competitive market demands something that is  innovative, light, tough, convenient and sexy all in one. There are a plethora of companies out there that make companies, from the specialists like Lowe Alpine through to your rubbish imports sold at the local market. How do you know what you’re getting is worth the money you’re paying for it? Its a tricky one.

Ultimate performance have released the Ultimate Performance Peak 2 22L Day Pack to extend their toes into the market and hopefully snag a good corner in the process.[/fusion_text][fusion_separator style_type=”none” top_margin=”10px” bottom_margin=”10px” sep_color=”” border_size=”” icon=”” icon_circle=”” icon_circle_color=”” width=”” alignment=”center” class=”” id=””/][fusion_imageframe lightbox=”no” gallery_id=”” lightbox_image=”” style_type=”none” hover_type=”none” bordercolor=”” bordersize=”0px” borderradius=”0″ stylecolor=”” align=”center” link=”” linktarget=”_self” animation_type=”0″ animation_direction=”down” animation_speed=”0.1″ animation_offset=”” hide_on_mobile=”no” class=”” id=””] Ultimate Performance Peak 2 22L Day Pack Review[/fusion_imageframe][fusion_separator style_type=”none” top_margin=”10px” bottom_margin=”10px” sep_color=”” border_size=”” icon=”” icon_circle=”” icon_circle_color=”” width=”” alignment=”center” class=”” id=””/][fusion_text][fusion_title size=”2″ content_align=”left” style_type=”default” sep_color=”” margin_top=”20px” margin_bottom=”10px” class=”” id=””]The Good Stuff…[/fusion_title][/fusion_text][fusion_separator style_type=”none” top_margin=”10px” bottom_margin=”10px” sep_color=”” border_size=”” icon=”” icon_circle=”” icon_circle_color=”” width=”” alignment=”center” class=”” id=””/][fusion_text]Ultimate Performance make excellent reflective gear. This trait has followed through into the design of the Ultimate Performance Peak 2 22L Day Pack. There are excellent reflective areas surrounding the bottom and top edges, the ones most visible when you would either be walking or on a bike – great news for those of us who do frequently cycle after dark.

The back padding for this bag is genuinely mega. Its super comfortable and excellent for heavy loads. I did find that it soaks up water rather well as well (more on that below)…

The bag also features some excellent walking pole holders on each side which are adjustable to hold the poles in place (or, like me, hold your axe in place…). The pole holders are complimented by rugged nylon bases for the feet to sit in, also good news.

A convenient front pocket zips vertically with great toggles for when the weather is cold and you have big gloves on (not an issue at the time of review – Summer!). The front pocket is big enough to store your most needed items – keys, pad, gloves, hat, that sort of thing.

There are also two great elasticated side pockets for holding water bottles or anything else you choose to throw in.

The main compartment is a top loading type, like many day sacks, is sizeable and good for storing all of your every day items. After using it solidly for work and day walks at the weekends for nearly a month now I can safely say I haven’t actually needed more space than what it offers, but perhaps that is just my carrying habits. I suppose if I was to take this on a small overnight trip then I would strap my sleeping bag outside, but then inside would still be plenty of room for stove, food, tarp and a change of clothes.

There is a rear pocket in the main compartment with an elastic banding. A convenient hook is also in place to hold your keys, or, if you’re imaginative, a hydration pack! One rather frustrating flaw with the latter suggestion is that there is no small opening in the bag to allow the bladder drinking pipe to exit the bag.

A solid ripstop nylon material is used for all external coating and, as been proven in the past, is a great material for withstanding what every day life throws at them.

The bag features an adjustable waist strap for when carrying heavier loads and also features an adjustable chest strap to hold the arm straps away from digging into your shoulders – a nice feature on a day pack.[/fusion_text][fusion_separator style_type=”none” top_margin=”10px” bottom_margin=”10px” sep_color=”” border_size=”” icon=”” icon_circle=”” icon_circle_color=”” width=”” alignment=”center” class=”” id=””/][fusion_imageframe lightbox=”no” gallery_id=”” lightbox_image=”” style_type=”none” hover_type=”none” bordercolor=”” bordersize=”0px” borderradius=”0″ stylecolor=”” align=”center” link=”” linktarget=”_self” animation_type=”0″ animation_direction=”down” animation_speed=”0.1″ animation_offset=”” hide_on_mobile=”no” class=”” id=””] Ultimate Performance Peak 2 22L Day Pack Review[/fusion_imageframe][fusion_separator style_type=”none” top_margin=”10px” bottom_margin=”10px” sep_color=”” border_size=”” icon=”” icon_circle=”” icon_circle_color=”” width=”” alignment=”center” class=”” id=””/][fusion_text][fusion_title size=”2″ content_align=”left” style_type=”default” sep_color=”” margin_top=”20px” margin_bottom=”10px” class=”” id=””]The Bad Stuff…[/fusion_title][/fusion_text][fusion_separator style_type=”none” top_margin=”10px” bottom_margin=”10px” sep_color=”” border_size=”” icon=”” icon_circle=”” icon_circle_color=”” width=”” alignment=”center” class=”” id=””/][fusion_text]So the bad. The front pocket is superb, but I did find myself putting the bag down on the ground to open the pocket – natural right? Well, kind of. I found that due to the fully vertical nature of the pocket, I would have to lay the bag flat on the ground to avoid spilling everything out of the pocket. This mean that if the ground was wet then I would soak the entire back padding of the bag which then in turn soaked my back. I’m an idiot I know, and obviously this can be planned differently; but when you’re rushing to get your keys out in the rain, sometimes it just happens.[/fusion_text][fusion_separator style_type=”none” top_margin=”10px” bottom_margin=”10px” sep_color=”” border_size=”” icon=”” icon_circle=”” icon_circle_color=”” width=”” alignment=”center” class=”” id=””/][fusion_imageframe lightbox=”no” gallery_id=”” lightbox_image=”” style_type=”none” hover_type=”none” bordercolor=”” bordersize=”0px” borderradius=”0″ stylecolor=”” align=”center” link=”” linktarget=”_self” animation_type=”0″ animation_direction=”down” animation_speed=”0.1″ animation_offset=”” hide_on_mobile=”no” class=”” id=””] Ultimate Performance Peak 2 22L Day Pack Review[/fusion_imageframe][fusion_separator style_type=”none” top_margin=”10px” bottom_margin=”10px” sep_color=”” border_size=”” icon=”” icon_circle=”” icon_circle_color=”” width=”” alignment=”center” class=”” id=””/][fusion_text][fusion_title size=”2″ content_align=”left” style_type=”default” sep_color=”” margin_top=”20px” margin_bottom=”10px” class=”” id=””]Technical Specifications[/fusion_title][/fusion_text][fusion_separator style_type=”none” top_margin=”10px” bottom_margin=”10px” sep_color=”” border_size=”” icon=”” icon_circle=”” icon_circle_color=”” width=”” alignment=”center” class=”” id=””/][fusion_text]The bag features:

  • 5 compartments (including hydration holder)
  • Excellent backslapped wicking air-mesh padding
  • Ripstop nylon material throughout
  • Adjustable chest and waist straps
  • Two pole holders

The side pockets are super accommodating. You get some really naff side pockets sometimes that you can barely squeeze a capri sun into before they tear. These are not tight – we could easily fit a litre bottle of water in each.[/fusion_text][fusion_separator style_type=”none” top_margin=”10px” bottom_margin=”10px” sep_color=”” border_size=”” icon=”” icon_circle=”” icon_circle_color=”” width=”” alignment=”center” class=”” id=””/][fusion_imageframe lightbox=”no” gallery_id=”” lightbox_image=”” style_type=”none” hover_type=”none” bordercolor=”” bordersize=”0px” borderradius=”0″ stylecolor=”” align=”center” link=”” linktarget=”_self” animation_type=”0″ animation_direction=”down” animation_speed=”0.1″ animation_offset=”” hide_on_mobile=”no” class=”” id=””] Ultimate Performance Peak 2 22L Day Pack Review[/fusion_imageframe][fusion_separator style_type=”none” top_margin=”10px” bottom_margin=”10px” sep_color=”” border_size=”” icon=”” icon_circle=”” icon_circle_color=”” width=”” alignment=”center” class=”” id=””/][fusion_imageframe lightbox=”no” gallery_id=”” lightbox_image=”” style_type=”none” hover_type=”none” bordercolor=”” bordersize=”0px” borderradius=”0″ stylecolor=”” align=”center” link=”” linktarget=”_self” animation_type=”0″ animation_direction=”down” animation_speed=”0.1″ animation_offset=”” hide_on_mobile=”no” class=”” id=””] Ultimate Performance Peak 2 22L Day Pack Review[/fusion_imageframe][fusion_separator style_type=”none” top_margin=”10px” bottom_margin=”10px” sep_color=”” border_size=”” icon=”” icon_circle=”” icon_circle_color=”” width=”” alignment=”center” class=”” id=””/][fusion_text][fusion_title size=”2″ content_align=”left” style_type=”default” sep_color=”” margin_top=”20px” margin_bottom=”10px” class=”” id=””]Conclusion[/fusion_title][/fusion_text][fusion_separator style_type=”none” top_margin=”10px” bottom_margin=”10px” sep_color=”” border_size=”” icon=”” icon_circle=”” icon_circle_color=”” width=”” alignment=”center” class=”” id=””/][fusion_text]So would I recommend buying this bag? Well, you know, yes. Its a very cool design, it is super useful in the sense that its like Mary Poppins Handbag – everything will fit, and its cross purpose design mean that its both easy and sexy to use as a day bag in the big smoke and also to strap your poles to, your sleeping bag underneath and head out for a night under the stars with everything you need.

You get a good balance of kit, weight, waterproofness (that is totally a word, right?) and durability for your money.

Verdict – Worth it.[/fusion_text][fusion_separator style_type=”none” top_margin=”10px” bottom_margin=”10px” sep_color=”” border_size=”” icon=”” icon_circle=”” icon_circle_color=”” width=”” alignment=”center” class=”” id=””/][fusion_imageframe lightbox=”no” gallery_id=”” lightbox_image=”” style_type=”none” hover_type=”none” bordercolor=”” bordersize=”0px” borderradius=”0″ stylecolor=”” align=”center” link=”” linktarget=”_self” animation_type=”0″ animation_direction=”down” animation_speed=”0.1″ animation_offset=”” hide_on_mobile=”no” class=”” id=””] Ultimate Performance Peak 2 22L Day Pack Review[/fusion_imageframe][fusion_separator style_type=”none” top_margin=”10px” bottom_margin=”10px” sep_color=”” border_size=”” icon=”” icon_circle=”” icon_circle_color=”” width=”” alignment=”center” class=”” id=””/][fusion_text][fusion_title size=”2″ content_align=”left” style_type=”default” sep_color=”” margin_top=”20px” margin_bottom=”10px” class=”” id=””]Image Reel[/fusion_title][/fusion_text][fusion_separator style_type=”none” top_margin=”10px” bottom_margin=”10px” sep_color=”” border_size=”” icon=”” icon_circle=”” icon_circle_color=”” width=”” alignment=”center” class=”” id=””/][/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][fusion_images picture_size=”auto” hover_type=”none” autoplay=”no” columns=”1″ column_spacing=”13″ scroll_items=”” show_nav=”yes” mouse_scroll=”no” border=”yes” lightbox=”no” class=”” id=””][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://theexplorershome.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/untitled-277.jpg” alt=””/][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://theexplorershome.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/untitled-289.jpg” alt=””/][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://theexplorershome.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/untitled-290.jpg” alt=””/][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://theexplorershome.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/untitled-292.jpg” alt=””/][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://theexplorershome.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/untitled-293.jpg” alt=””/][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://theexplorershome.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/untitled-294.jpg” alt=””/][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://theexplorershome.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/untitled-295.jpg” alt=””/][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://theexplorershome.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/untitled-296.jpg” alt=””/][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://theexplorershome.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/untitled-297.jpg” alt=””/][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://theexplorershome.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/untitled-298.jpg” alt=””/][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://theexplorershome.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/untitled-299.jpg” alt=””/][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://theexplorershome.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/untitled-291.jpg” alt=””/][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://theexplorershome.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/untitled-296-1.jpg” alt=””/][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://theexplorershome.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/untitled-275.jpg” alt=””/][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://theexplorershome.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/untitled-278.jpg” alt=””/][/fusion_images][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
